What It does.
Welcome to NBA PowerScore.
Developed by college student Evan Hagen in 2015 and 2016, NBA PowerScore is a data system that uses advanced NBA statistics to evaluate every player in the NBA based on performance in nearly every aspect of the game to determine a player’s PowerValue. Using these PowerValues, which change constantly on a day-to-day basis, a PowerScore can be determined for every team in the NBA at any given point based on a player’s overall impact and contributions to the game. Using these PowerScores and the PowerScore formula (factoring in win %, recent performance, strength of schedule, etc.), the NBA PowerScore system predicts the outcome of NBA games. In the 2015-2016 season, NBA PowerScore had a very impressive 73% rate of calculating NBA game outcomes. It is far surpassing that this year.
NBA PowerScore can also be used in the aftermath of a game to calculate what the outcome would have likely been given specific lineup adjustments. This is because NBA PowerScore uses projected minutes played based on injuries, performances, and recent games, whereas actual lineups used will typically vary. NBA PowerScore outcomes are strongly correlated to lineups used by each team.
